Lighthouse Park — My Instagram Picture is featured

I took this picture on Monday February 20, 2017. It was Presidents Day. It was a warm enough day to drive to Lighthouse Park in New Haven, Connecticut.

My fiance and I have a friendly competition on getting our pictures featured by Instagram User newhavenista. This made my night.

5 Ingredient Slow Cooker Mac & Cheese By Fitslowcookerqueen

5 Ingredient Slow Cooker Mac & Cheese By Fitslowcookerqueen

Out of all the social media apps I use I think Instagram (username alzibluk) is my favorite. All we are doing is sharing pictures. I have gotten to be friends with people with similar interests. I do not go on Facebook as much as everything is just politics or someone doing something horrific.

I started taking pictures of different crockpot recipes when user fitslowcookerqueen found me. She started liking my pictures so I started liking hers. I went to her site where I found “5 Ingredient Slow Cooker Mac & Cheese.” I was looking for an easy one and I happen to find it here. Below is her site, ingredient list and her instructions.

http://fitslowcookerqueen.com/slow-cooker-mac-cheese/

INGREDIENTS

  • 32 ounces macaroni, uncooked
  • 16 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 cups almond milk
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tsp poultry seasoning

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add all ingredients to the slow cooker.
  • Stir to mix well.
  • Cook HIGH 1-2 hours or LOW 2-3.

The only thing I did different was use coconut oil instead of cooking spray. Below is my picture before I turned the power on.

I cooked it on low for 3 hours. I then unplugged my crockpot and let it cool down for a while. It came out a little dryer than it should be but I thoroughly enjoyed the taste.

I will most definitely try this again. I think it is a great base. I see cooking it with mushrooms, bacon, etc. in the future.

A few weeks ago I tried a recipe I found called “4 Ingredient Mac & Cheese.” It actually gave me heartburn. Each time I cooked the leftovers I got the heartburn. There was no heartburn associated with the recipe above. I did want to share that experience.

I was glad to get away from the brown rice, lentil and quinoa recipes I have been making. Although they are great and healthy, it gets boring week after week. It was great to mix it up.

If you have a recipe you would like to share I encourage you to join my group at Markethive. Posting to the group’s blog will get your recipe featured on other sites. I am also pinning recipes I am trying on Pinterest.

All the best,

Using Tumblr, Yelp and Pinterest with MarketHive

I have wanted to write this blog post for a while showing people how I share pictures from popular sites like Yelp, Pinterest, Tumblr with MarketHive. I assume everyone is using MarketHive for their WordPress websites. If you have not signed up please feel free to visit my site at https://markethive.com/alzibluk or go to my own personal website at the end of this article to click on the widget on the top right.

I like pictures as a picture says a thousand words . I am a better photographer than writer. Pictures tell stories.

I use Instagram for all my pictures (userid alzibluk). The sundial really enhances them. Unfortunately with Instagram it uses embedded scripts in sharing with other sites which will not show up with the MarketHive Plugin. I have a similar problem with Pinterest but there is a way around this. I will show you later.

With Instagram I can immediately post my pictures to Flickr, Tumblr, Foursquare,Facebook and Twitter. Later I will go to my gallery on my phone to post to Pinterest and Yelp (only if it is involving dining).

The first thing when I am ready to write a blog post is find the pictures I want to use. I currently use Google Chrome as my main browser. Once I find the picture I want to use I will have my mouse on the picture. Then I click right mouse button which opens a new window where I select Open Image in new tab. I then proceed to go to that tab to copy the url address of it which I will copy and paste into my notepad. I did this three times for this post.

The second thing I do is have my text all typed out. I want my hyperlinks all set up. I do know basic html and still use EditPlus. I then go my MarketHive account, click Blogs and Write a new Blog Post. I click the source button and copy/paste my html text. I then hit source button a second time. I move my cursor between the paragraphs where I want to Insert image. Hitting the image button will open up a new dialog box. I will paste the image url where it says url at the top. I don t like going higher than 500 for my Width and Height settings.

My first picture I am taking from my Tumblr account. As I mentioned earlier when I publish in Instagram it publishes in Tumblr. This picture is Ordinary in New Haven, Connecticut. I like to go there on a Friday night after the end of the work week. Ordinary was listed in Conde Nast Traveler — Drink Up: The Greatest Bars in the World. While I am there I like thinking about content for my blogs. It is where I go to think.

My second picture I am taking from my Yelp account. I like to go to the Dew Drop Inn in Derby, Connecticut for Buffalo Wings on Saturday mornings. This picture is the JD BBC Cucumber Wasabi Wings which is probably my third favorite. My favorite so far are the Buttery BBQ Montreal Wings. While I am at the Dew Drop Inn I continue on thinking about what I want to post in my blogs.

My last picture I am taking from my Pinterest account. It is a foliage picture I took on Saturday October 31, 2015 in Bethany, Connecticut. It is part of the West Rock Trail that ends in New Haven. As you can guess while there I think about my blog posts.

I hope this blog post helps. If you believe that my message is worth spreading, please use the share buttons if they are visible on this page. I am borrowing that line from Stephen Hodgkiss, Chief Engineer at MarketHive.

All the best,

Alan

Facebook Reach? LOL

What is your reach in Facebook?

Say you have a fanpage on Facebook and you post an interesting article or MEME and that post gets a reach of 1200 according to FB. You think thats pretty good. Then you submit another post and it generates a reach of 3200. You think to yourself, WOW, I AM doing good. But you are not doing as good as you should be.

The highest priority with my fanpage is to create posts that create engagement and spurs my fans to take action. When they take action in the form of liking the post, sharing the post or commenting on it it helps expand the reach of the post. Reach is the they key. However Facebook has changed their algorithm.

This from Facebook:

While the goal of News Feed is to show high quality posts to people, we wanted to better understand what high quality means. To do this we decided to develop a new algorithm to factor into News Feed. To develop it, we first surveyed thousands of people to understand what factors make posts from Pages high quality. Some of the questions we asked included:

  • Is this timely and relevant content?
  • Is this content from a source you would trust?
  • Would you share it with friends or recommend it to others?
  • Is the content genuinely interesting to you or is it trying to game News Feed distribution? (e.g., asking for people to like the content)
  • Would you call this a low quality post or meme?
  • Would you complain about seeing this content in your News Feed?

OK all of this seems good, but read more from Facebook:

We used the results of this survey to build a new machine learning system to detect content defined as high quality. The system uses over a thousand different factors, such as how frequently content from a certain Page is reported as low quality (e.g., hiding a Page post), how complete the Page profile is, and whether the fan base for a particular Page overlaps with the fan base of other known high quality Pages. Coming up with an algorithm to detect this is complex, and we will continue to refine it as we get more feedback.

So you see Facebook is actually controling how your fanpage perfoms and grows. Your reach is going to be what FB decides, not from your hard work and expense. They want you to advertise. They make money but they limit your ability to do the same.

When the Internet first started it was free and open to a wide range of ideas and opinons. Now establishment special interests are tying to put everyone onto a box and limit the social media users options for the benefit of a few "elites" The government is also trying to limit the Internet also because they think they know whats best for you.

There is a recent study that most successful people operate in large open networks where they are the link to people from different backgrounds. Read study here

Facebook for example limits you to a closed network  of only your FB friends and then limits the posts they see from you. So your reach on Facebook is limited and less than the Internet as a whole.

So if you are looking for a social network that is free and open and will not limit your entreprenual spirit, then you need to take a serious look at Markethive.  The ECO system for the Entrepreneur. Markethive will make you the key to connecting with the Internet and people like no other social network. Markethive will not limit you ever. It has all the tools you will need to make you entreprenual spirit soar to new heights.
